Bad Weather and Being Ready For It
Every state is affected by extreme weather and natural disasters, though some are hit more often than others. Regardless of where you live, no one is immune to unexpected disasters. In order to prepare your home or workplace for extreme weather there are a few steps you can take even before bad weather is predicted. Start by compiling an emergency supply kit loaded with non-perishable food, clean drinking water, batteries, flashlights, a crank-powered radio, and first aid supplies. A basic kit like this is your safety net no matter what emergency you find yourself in.
Be aware of the emergency escape routes that are accessible to you. At work, means of egress are required to be marked and well-lit even if the power goes out. At home, know where all the exits are and where the nearest shelter is.
Learning CPR and First Aid can only make you better prepared for a disaster. If roads are impassible due to weather and someone around you needs medical assistance, this could be the difference between life and death.
The best way to be prepared for a weather emergency is to clearly define an emergency plan. Gather your family and discuss how you will deal with an event such as a tornado, earthquake, hurricane, etc. At work, it is mandatory that all employees learn and understand emergency plans in addition to taking part in regular drills.
Keep yourself and your family safe by preparing yourselves long before extreme weather strikes.
