If you lose power in your home or there is a citywide disaster, cordless phones will not be of much service to you since they plug into ac outlets. Cellular networks can become overwhelmed and you may not be able to get a clear signal. A landline phone will allow you to reach emergency services and contact family members to let them know that you are safe. If you can't stand to keep it plugged in at all times due to that annoying ring, at least keep it with your Household Emergency Kit. You do have an Emergency Kit, right?
