Tis the Season… for House Fires

Are you being fire safe this year? I love the holidays as much as the next guy, but it pays to be safe.
  • Get a fake tree. I know fresh cut trees smell better and are more traditional, but they burn. We switched to an artificial tree several years ago and I don't regret it (besides, it's much easier to put up and take down).
  • Never burn a candle in an empty room or a room with sleeping people in it. Candles are beautiful, but they can be deadly. The candle is burning for your enjoyment, so stay in the room — awake — and enjoy it. If we think we might fall asleep, we snuff out our candles. It's just not worth the risk.
  • Don't leave the kitchen with something cooking on the stove. More fires are started in the kitchen than anywhere else in the house — mostly by unattended cooking.
Stay safe this year so you can enjoy the holiday season with your family and friends.
